Roger Moore, Pinewood Studios, on the set of James Bond The Spy Who Loved MeAlmost exactly 40 years ago, on July 23rd 1977, Pinewood Studios was opened to the public, perhaps for the first time. This British Movietonenews film covers the event and was captured in high definition from an original Super 8mm film reel by our very own Q-branch. It is only about 6 minutes long, but in the middle of the film it visits the massive 007 Sound stage recently (at the time) built to house the three nuclear submarines seen in The Spy Who Loved MeThe Spy Who Loved Me. The film makers seem to want you to believe that those enjoying the studio tour were able to see Roger Moore, Barbara Bach, Curt Jurgens and others filming on the set, though of course the film had in fact already premiered on July 7th of that year. In any case, this is a neat little film that takes you behind the scenes of that film and also manages to show a photograph of Sean Connery (in A Bridge to Far) among the costume displays. Oh - and The Wombles!
